Bridging Cultures Through Ethnographic Filmmaking
In collaboration with filmmaker Peter Livermore and his company Seven Orients Films, and with members of the Lanten community, the Yao Dao Project has developed a series of documentary outputs grounded in participatory and locally engaged research. The first of these is a 9-minute documentary (right), produced as the opening piece for Joseba Estevez’s Lanten exhibition at the Ethnographic Museum of Luang Namtha, designed to foreground community voices and ritual life. A 18-minute version (below) was developed in parallel and has been deposited with the National Library of Laos, ensuring long-term accessibility and preservation within a national cultural institution and welcoming visitors interested in heritage preservation and cultural promotion initiatives.
